  1. Hang in there, kiddo - there are people you've never met who are praying for you and passing the word. We've got donations coming your way - via the links you posted, of course. I've never been to Monterosso, but you can be sure I *will* get there now. I'm another 2nd generation Italian from the NY metro area who fell in love with Italy, her people and her food. Your blog is one way for me to connect with that love and my heart is bleeding for all of you now. Thanks for keeping us all 'in the loop'. I know the clean up and rebuilding will continue long after the media have gone, so please let us know how we can continue to help from here. Stay strong. One step at a time. We care.

  2. I honestly can't express how much your message means to me. It really made my day, and I appreciate your support more then I have words for. Thank you for spreading the word, and, most of all, for caring.

  3. Christine,
My name is Rhonda and I feel compelled to write to you after reading your blog about these recent floods in one of the most beautiful and uniquely special places I've ever been. I go to Italy as often as I can, and Monterosso is a place that took my breath away the moment I arrived for the first time more than a year ago. This past summer, I spent 3 months in Italy (mostly in Lucca) and went to Monterosso several times. I dined at Ristorante Miky a couple of times and also at the Cantina di Miky. I feel very familiar and connected with the town and some of its kind residents and weep as I look at the pictures of the damage from this recent storm and landslides. I am sad to report that this event has not received any media attention in the U.S.- at least not any that I've seen or heard. I read about it on-line in the Italian newspapers and cannot keep myself from reading as much as I can about the situation. Thank you so very much for keeping us posted in such detail always keeping the focus on the personal stories and spirit of the residents who have lost so much. I'm sorry for this long message, but I really want to express to you and to everyone in Monterosso that many of us are thinking of you and sending positive thoughts and prayers. I have contributed to the Red Cross, and I cannot wait to return to Monterosso next summer to celebrate its rebirth! Hang in there and know that many hearts are with you.
    All the best. Un abbraccio.
    Rhonda
